There are few cars that better suit the description “a race car built for the road” than the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which racing driver Brendon Hartley sets out to determine in this latest video. Hartley is one of Porsche’s works drivers for its LMP1 efforts in the World Endurance Championship, and to test the performance of its most hardcore 911 the German automaker sent the young New Zealander to the Nardo test track in Italy, which Porsche just so happens to own.

Hartley points out a number of features that make the latest GT3 RS more like a race car than a road car, such as the pit speed button, carbon fiber bucket seats, roll cage and extreme downforce-generating aero components. Then he turns on the car’s new launch control function and speeds his way onto the track. Unfortunately for the camera man sitting in the passenger seat, it took just two laps of Hartley’s high-speed antics before nausea sets in.

The new 911 GT3 RS made its world debut last week at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The car, which is powered by an all-new 4.0-liter flat-six engine good for 500 horsepower and 338 pound-feet of torque, goes on sale this July priced from at $176,895 with shipping. As expected, the car comes exclusively with Porsche’s seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, however, there are unique upgrades to the unit such as the aforementioned pit speed function as well as a ‘paddle neutral’ function that’s a bit like pressing the clutch with a conventional manual gearbox.
