Christian von Koenigsegg simply cannot hide how excited he is about his company’s latest creation, the Regera. The hybrid supercar was shown for the first time at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and is due to start production at the end of this year.

In this latest video, von Koenigsegg gives the guys at Shmee150 a close look and then takes them out for a spin. This is still a pre-production unit so some of the interior details aren’t indicative of the final design. Nevertheless, according to von Koenigsegg most of the calibration work is complete so the driving experience is pretty much what the end buyer can expect.

As previously reported, the 1,500-horsepower Regera features Koenigsegg’s new Direct Drive system, which instead of using a multi-gear transmission connects the engine with the wheels via a single-speed reduction gear and hydraulic coupling system. Once the vehicle has sufficient speed, in this case 30 mph, the coupling system locks up, meaning the wheels now spin in direct proportion to engine revs. It means the top speed is limited by the number of revs, in this case 248 mph at 8,250 rpm.

Below 30 mph, the revs would be too low to drive the car so instead an electric drive system is employed. Three electric motors feature: one at each of the rear wheels and another mounted to the engine. The latter serves as the starter motor but can also recover energy as well as aid the engine by providing torque fill at lower revs.

As mentioned, production of the Regera won’t start until the end of this year. In the meantime, Koenigsegg is building its Agera RS supercar, the first of the Swedish marque’s cars to be fully homologated for sale in the United States. Unfortunately, Koenigsegg is building just 25 examples and all build slots are accounted for. It took just 10 months for all build slots for the 1,160-hp supercar to sell out, making it the fastest selling model in Koenigsegg history.

You can get a sense of what goes into producing these cars in a second video from Shmee150 filmed inside Koenigsegg’s factory in Ängelholm, Sweden.
