For most auto enthusiasts and readers of this site, the Ford Motor Company’s [NYSE:F] new GT supercar is unmistakably a descendent of the legendary GT40 race car as well as the original GT supercar launched last decade. However, to the average man or woman on the street, identifying the origins of the latest GT is no easy task.

The original GT concept unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show earlier in the year is currently touring Europe to help promote Ford’s 24 Hours of Le Mans return next year. One of the stops was in central London where Ford decided to cover up the car’s Blue Oval and then ask onlookers if they could guess its maker.

A number of onlookers thought the car was some kind of McLaren. The funniest response was from one chap who thought it was… a Brabus. Unfortunately, we’d wager that most people would be just us dumbfounded if a badgeless GT was rolled out at a busy location here in the United States.

To be fair, the new GT isn’t on sale yet, so it's only a matter of time until its anonymity fades. The car is currently testing in prototype form and is expected to be delivered to its first customers towards the end of next year. Ford has confirmed the car will produce in excess of 600 horsepower from its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, be constructed mostly of carbon fiber, and have a price tag of around $400,000.
