Roughly 20 years ago, a 12-year-old boy wrote a letter to Jay Leno asking to be picked up from school in a Lamborghini. Leno agreed, and picked up the boy in what has since become to be known as the original ‘School Run’ stunt.

“Dear Mr Leno,” the boy’s letter said, “I have told a kind of fib that got me into trouble and now I need your help. I told everybody you were my uncle. And that you and I go driving around in your Lamborghini at weekends. Well, my friends didn’t believe me and started making fun of me. So I wonder if you could help me out. Is there any chance you could maybe pick me up one day and give me a ride to school so all my friends could see that you really are my uncle, even though you’re not?”

Now, Leno, together with The Sunday Times, has repeated the stunt with two unsuspecting boys in the U.K. This time, however, the comedian and television personality used a 2015 Volvo V60 Polestar, and the school run included a little detour to the famous Top Gear test track.

After driving the 350-horsepower wagon around the track, Leno determined it would probably be quicker than his Lamborghini Countach used during the previous school run stunt. That’s because in addition to its potent powerplant the V60 Polestar benefits from a quick-shifting six-speed automatic, Öhlins shocks and a Haldex all-wheel-drive setup.
