Volvo’s second-generation XC90 is set to be revealed in a fortnight at a special event in Stockholm, Sweden. But this being the first all-new version of the SUV since the original’s debut at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show, Volvo simply can’t help itself from revealing many of the vehicle’s details early.

Earlier today we got a look at the new XC90’s modular SPA platform, and now we have our first teaser photo showing the exterior of the upcoming seven-seat SUV. The teaser depicts the ‘face’ of the new XC90, which is distinguished by its T-shaped daytime running lights, christened ‘Thor’s Hammer’ by the design team after the shape of the hammer used by the Norse god Thor.

We can also see part of the grille, the contours of the hood and the shape of the side mirror housing in the teaser. As for the look of the rear, a presentation made by Volvo chief designer Thomas Ingenlath a year ago gave a few clues.

As mentioned above, the new XC90 will be revealed in just a couple of weeks. Its official debut will take place at the 2014 Paris Auto Show in October and the first examples are expected in local showrooms next spring, most likely as 2015 models.
