The all-new Lexus NX crossover goes on sale next month with a starting price of $35,405, including a $925 destination charge. That price tag is for the entry-level NX 200t. The only additional model available at launch for U.S. customers is the NX 300h, a hybrid that starts at $40,645, including destination.

The NX arrives as a 2015 model and competes against small crossovers in the premium segment such as the Acura RDX and Infiniti QX50. By comparison, the RDX starts at $35,990 and the QX50 at $35,995.

Anyone considering the NX’s pricier NX 300h model will likely want to also check out some of the German alternatives. The BMW X3, for example, starts at $39,325 while the Audi Q5 starts at $39,825. The Lexus is unique in that it’s a hybrid, but the Germans do offer diesel engines for buyers seeking low fuel consumption.

The NX 200t comes powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic and drives either the front wheels or all four.

The NX 300h’s powertrain combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine running an Atkinson cycle with an electric motor, and also comes with the choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Peak output for this model is 194 horsepower.
