Racing drivers Scott McLaughlin and Robert Dahlgren recently headed to northern Sweden to spend some time in the new 2015 Volvo S60 Polestar. The duo race a unique version of the car in Australia’s V8 Supercars touring car series, and Dahlgren thought that it would be a great deal of fun to invite McLaughlin to his homeland to test out the fastest Volvo ever put into production--on a track carved out of a frozen lake.

For Dahlgren, this was familiar territory. Not only is he a native of Sweden, he also helped deliver the S60 Polestar and some previous hot Volvos. For McLaughlin, who last month drove an S60 Polestar race car to victory in V8 Supercars, the experience was very new.

After the frozen lake stint, both drivers headed to Volvo’s headquarters in Gothenburg where they were able to check out the automaker’s main factory and wind tunnel test facilities as well as the Polestar skunk works.

For Volvo fans back in the U.S., the first S60 Polestar models and the V60 wagon variant is due in showrooms in June. Only 120 examples are pegged for the U.S. market, which means availability will be tight. The cars feature a 345-horsepower turbo six paired with a six-speed, paddle-shifted automatic and a Polestar-developed all-wheel-drive system. They also get Öhlins shocks, Brembo brakes, and unique paint schemes.
