Kia’s sporty concept for the 2014 Detroit Auto Show has turned out to be the new GT4 Stinger. The concept is for a striking race car built to GT4 specifications and featuring a 2+2 layout.

Apart from the grille, it's hard to place any element on the GT4 Stinger in the Kia design handbook. The concept sits just inches from the ground and its headlights are a stack of LEDs that look like they’ve been lifted off an Audi Le Mans prototype.

Front-brake cooling vents funnel air around custom center-lock 20-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero 275/35 rubber, while a carbon fiber front splitter adds downforce. Brembo Gran Tourismo two-piece rotors and four-piston calipers bring the GT4 Stinger to a stop.

Under the hood sits a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder developing a hefty 315 horsepower. Drive goes to the rear wheels only, and the suspension is double wishbones all around.

Kia says the car "is intended to turn heads while delivering superb driving enjoyment on both road and track," but it’s not clear if a production version is planned or this is purely a styling exercise. The car's color is dubbed "Ignition Yellow."

Full details for the GT4 Stinger will be available when the striking concept is unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show on January 13. For our ongoing coverage of the event, click here.
