Porsche--understandably--is excited about its return to top-level endurance racing after sitting out for 16 years and watching sister brand Audi rack up win after win. The sports car brand has been building the excitement with the release of information surrounding its preparation for the new season of the World Endurance Championship and development of its 919 Hybrid Le Mans prototype that will contend the competition’s top LMP1 class.

Here we see Porsche’s team practice a pit stop, but what would ordinarily be over in just a matter of seconds has been slowed down in order to detail the complexity behind each stop. As Porsche explains, “what appears easy is in fact the result of hard work”.

Full details on the 919 Hybrid are still being kept secret but we know the drivetrain consists of a four-cylinder gasoline engine with direct injection and two energy recovery systems. Recovered energy is stored in a battery until retrieved by the driver, whereby the energy is directed to a powerful electric motor that provides additional drive to the front axle.

Two 919 Hybrids will be entered in the 2014 WEC, which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driving the cars will be Brendon Hartley, Marc Lieb, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Mark Webber.

Below is a bonus clip showing the development of the 919 Hybrid.

The first race will be the 6 Hours of Silverstone on April 20 in the U.K.
