Bentley has a rich history intertwined in the world of motorsports. As of late, however, the automaker hasn't been competing as often as it did in the early 20th century. One notable exception is a win at Le Mans back in 2003 with the Speed 8 racecar. Now though, Bentley is looking to get back into the game and it's doing so with the Continental GT3 racer.

The team and car will be facing their first test at the upcoming Gulf 12 endurance race. This is a 12-hour race held at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, and it should yield valuable information for the team. After all, Bentley hasn't placed a car on a grid in ten years. Still, the M-Sport team that is running the car has, and they should be more than ready to run with the field.

M-Sport was founded in 1979 and has many titles to its name. Additionally, M-Sport has been a part of the World Rally Championship racing world with Ford. There M-Sport won two world championships in 2006 and 2007.

It will be exciting to see a Bentley machine back on the racing circuit. After all, even before that 2003 Le Mans win, Bentley's racing history is filled with top tier victories. In fact, the automaker recently celebrated its rich Le Mans history by churning out a few limited edition Le Mans-branded vehicles to honor some of the brands most famous drivers. Perhaps Bentley will look to celebrate Stevan Kane and Andy Meyrick, alongside the third driver Guy Smith whose 2003 victory is already honored with a sampling of the limited-edition machines.
