McLaren’s new P1 supercar, the spiritual successor to the legendary F1, made its dynamic debut at the recent 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K., and on hand to drive the car up the event’s famous hill climb was none other than Formula One ace Jenson Button.

As we previously learned, Button managed to set a time of 53 seconds for the hill climb using the P1, which isn’t too shabby considering the course record stands at 41.6 seconds, as set by Nick Heidfeld back in 1999 in another McLaren, the MP4-13 F1 race car.

Now we have a video where Button talks about his experience at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, his 14th time at the event, and then we get to see him put the P1 through its paces. It’s a little scary seeing how close he comes to the barricades but as the in-car footage shows he’s calm and in control at all times.

As the video confirms, the P1’s 903-horsepower of plug-in hybrid grunt sounds ferocious at full tilt. For full details on the car be sure to check our in-depth report.

Note, the P1 wasn’t the only McLaren making its dynamic debut at Goodwood. The company also showed off a new 12C GT Sprint track car and celebrated its 50th anniversary with a showing of some of its most historic race cars.
