It’s been a year since the Mexican sports car startup VŪHL launched its first model, the 05 track car, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. And now the founders of the company, brothers Iker and Guillermo Echeverria, have taken a look back at all that’s passed.

They both developed a passion for automobiles after watching their father, Guillermo Echeverria senior, build and campaign race cars for over 30 years. It sounds like they want to apply that passion to their own vehicle, and the 05 is the result of this dream. It's certainly not easy to bring a completely new vehicle to market, but the 05 seems to tick a lot of the enthusiast and track-focused boxes.

In case you’ve forgotten, the 05 is a track car that weighs just 1,532 pounds and is powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine delivering 285 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Matched to this is a six-speed manual gearbox that helps direct power to the rear wheels. VŪHL predicts a 0-60 mph time of just 3.7 and top speed of 152 mph.

Pricing starts at around $84,000 but from here there is a long list of options on offer to enable the 05 to be upgraded to personal taste.

Sadly, while VŪHL appears to be having some success, another Mexican sports car startup, Mastretta, looks to be on the wane.
