The 2014 Porsche Macan is on track for a world debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show in November but it will soon be followed by more potent variants like a Macan Turbo, a prototype for which has been spotted with barely any camouflage gear. We know it's a prototype for the Macan Turbo due to the set of four squared-off exhaust tips almost identical to those found on Porsche’s other ‘Turbo’ models like the 911 Turbo, Cayenne Turbo and Panamera Turbo.

Interestingly, we can also see that the Macan Turbo will come with Porsche's new 'C-Blade' air scoop at the front, which was first shown on the automaker's striking Panamera Sport Turismo concept from 2012. Porsche design chief Michael Mauer has previously said this design element would feature on the automaker's future cars.

It was reported as far back as April 2012 that Porsche would launch a Macan Turbo but it may be some time still until we see it revealed. Since we’re so close to the Macan’s showroom arrival, slated for spring of 2014, it’s likely the Macan Turbo won’t be available at the initial launch and will arrive later in 2014, most likely as a 2015 model.

Power is expected to come from the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that debuted in the 2014 Porsche Panamera S. In the big sedan the engine is tuned to deliver 420 horsepower, though this is expected to be capped at around 370 horsepower for the Macan Turbo. Drive will be sent to all four wheels, most likely via Porsche’s seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.

Further down the track, we’re likely to see an even more potent Macan Turbo S most likely matching the Panamera S’ 420-horsepower output.

Key competitors for the Macan Turbo will include the upcoming GLA45 AMG from Mercedes-Benz and a possible M Performance X4 crossover from BMW.
