At the 2013 Detroit Auto Show back in January, Ford tuner Shelby American announced a new wide-body kit designed for the Mustang and previewed it using its latest 2013 GT500 Super Snake.

At the kit’s launch, Shelby was tight on details, saying only that it had been designed to fit any Mustang dating back to the 2005 model year.

Shelby has now released full details for the kit, including pricing.

You can buy just the rear package for $3,399 or the whole kit for $5,999, with both packages including a billet fuel cap, installation instructions and all the extras required to install it.

Shelby is keen to stress that a professional body shop should handle the modifications, though it does provide full instructions should you wish to install the kit yourself or Shelby’s own team can install it, at added cost.

It should also be noted that since this is a wide-body kit, you’ll need to fork out extra for new wheels and tires as well. Massive 13-inch wide wheels are recommended for the rear, while 10-inch wheels are recommended for the front. At its widest point, the kit adds six inches of girth to the Mustang’s haunches.

The kit itself is made from lightweight fiberglass and has fit and finish that's comparable with OEM quality.

Shelby is currently selling kits for 2005-2009 Mustangs and plans to add the kits for 2010-2014 Mustangs this summer.
