SRT’s awesome Viper TA (Time Attack) track special is ready for its showroom debut but if you're thinking of getting one you had better not waste too much time in deciding as only 159 examples are planned, divided up into 93 in the hero TA Orange color, 33 in Venom Black and the remaining 33 in Bright White. Originally, SRT planned to build just 33 of these beauties.

The Viper TA is the lightest model in the Viper lineup at 3,390 pounds, and builds upon the regular model’s ultra-low center of gravity, 50/50 weight distribution and largest tire contact patch in the production car arena--larger than that of even the Bugatti Veyron.

It uses chassis parts developed specifically for it such as new spring rates, dampers, sway bars and brake components, along with a special aerodynamics package helped to boost downforce. The changes keep the Viper TA glued to the track, while the brake system is enhanced for improved balance and to resist thermal saturation during track work.

Unique race-tuned calibration for the two-mode Bilstein DampTronic suspension system, retuned springs, shocks and road-racing derived sway bars offer firmer levels of damping and a smaller spread between modes than what is found on other Viper models. A lighter, carbon fiber structural X-brace replaces the standard aluminum brace under the hood and ties the four corners of the engine compartment together, contributing to the 50 percent increase in torsional rigidity and stiffness.

The brakes are a new Brembo two-piece set, which feature high-thermal capacity rotors and pads that optimize heat dissipation. The aerodynamics package includes a carbon fiber front splitter and new rear spoiler to boost downforce at higher speeds, with SRT claiming a 700 percent increase over the stock model at speeds over 150 mph. The wheels are an ultra-lightweight, multi-spoke design and they come wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

Inside, the Viper TA features the same racing bucket seats from Sabelt found in other Viper models. Both driver and passenger seats can accommodate a three- or six-point harness for racing belts. Orange accent stitching is used throughout the cabin.

Though designed for track use, the car is fully road legal and is powered by the same 8.4-liter V-10 found across the Viper line. Peak output remains pegged at 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual.

Deliveries of the Viper TA commence in the coming weeks. We’ll also be bringing you a first drive report on the car very soon.
