The 2014 Chevrolet SS doesn’t hit showrooms until this fall, where it will wear a pricetag of $44,470, but the car’s Australian cousin, the new VF Holden Commodore, has just launched in its own market.

These are two of the television ads for the VF Commodore, both of which make mention of the car’s ties to the Chevy SS.

They show a silver version of the new sports sedan driving down one of Manhattan’s busy streets. Importantly, this is our first look at the SS in motion.

All SS models will come with the same drivetrain: a 6.2-liter LS3 V-8, mated to a six-speed automatic and sending drive to the rear wheels. Peak output will register at 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.

Holden’s latest Commodore, meanwhile, comes with a variety of engines and bodystyles. It’s also available with a six-speed manual transmission and in HSV-trim can deliver upwards of 580 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8.

It goes on sale less than two months after it was revealed that the brand’s arch rival Down Under, Ford, will be ending production in Australia in 2016 and discontinuing its own Falcon rear-wheel-drive sedan. The Holden ads make it clear that Aussie buyers should think strongly about what buying a Holden actually means, not only in regards to their own needs and tastes but to the rest of Australia as well.
