The idea behind the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee is a simple one: focus on the performance and handling aspects of the car, while reducing luxury content to keep the price attractive to the enthusiast buyer on a budget.

SRT is now applying this less-is-more philosophy to the Challenger SRT8 and the 300 SRT8 as well, and the three models will form the backbone of the brand’s “Core SRT” vehicle strategy.

The 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 “Core” model will get a black grille and black SRT rear spoiler, a black 392 decal on the front fenders, 20-inch wheels with black pockets and black Brembo brake calipers. While the standard exterior paint colors remain available, Hemi Orange Pearl Coat and Plum Crazy Pearl Coat also join the mix.

Inside, the Challenger Core model shares its “Ballistic” cloth seat inserts with the new Viper, and the bolsters are finished in what Chrysler is calling “Axel” cloth. Dark slate gray and carbon complete the interior color theme.

Under-hood is the 6.4-liter (392 cubic-inch) Hemi V-8 engine that we all know and love, rated at 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to get the Challenger Core from 0-60 in under five seconds, while delivering up to 23 mpg on the highway.

If four doors are more your style, the Chrysler 300 SRT8 Core joins the Dodge Charger Super Bee in the SRT lineup. The 300 SRT8 Core ears a 6.4L badge on its front fenders, sports 20-inch wheels with black pockets and offers up the buyer’s choice of red or black Brembo brake calipers.

Inside, the 300 SRT8 Core gets the same two-fabric seats as the Challenger Core, but dresses up its interior with matte carbon and piano black interior accents.

Like the Challenger, power comes from a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, which produces comparable acceleration and fuel economy numbers. Chrysler 300 SRT8 Core models will be available in any of the model’s eight current exterior hues.

Finally, the Dodge Charger Super Bee returns for 2013 as well, wearing a new gloss black “crosshair” grille complete with helmeted bee mascot, 392 Hemi fender badges, Super Bee graphics, 20-inch wheels with black pockets and black brake calipers.

Like the Challenger Core, the Super Bee will also come in Hemi Orange Pearl Coat and Plum Crazy Pearl Coat, as well as three other exterior paint choices.

The 2013 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee is available now, priced from $42,990 including a destination charge of $995. Dodge Challenger SRT 8 Core and Chrysler 300 SRT8 Core models hit dealers this summer, priced from $39,990 (Challenger) and $44,990 (300), including destination.
