A new name, a fresh new look, and hopes to take on--and beat--the best of the luxury car segment: The 2014 Infiniti Q50 aims high.

From our initial vantage point, it hits the mark, too. The exterior, while speaking the language of the mid-size luxury sedan fluently, nevertheless manages to look completely original in an already packed field. The dramatic front end, flowing sides, and balanced, taut rear come together in beautiful harmony.

The interior of the 2014 Q50 isn't as dramatic as its exterior, but it looks a notch nicer than the G37 Sedan that preceded it, and certainly on par with offerings from the German, American, and Japanese competition.

Under the hood you'll find Infiniti's proven VQ V-6 engine, rated at 328 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. A new hybrid option boosts combined output to 354 horsepower--a stout figure that says this is more of a "fun hybrid" than a "green hybrid". We like that approach.
