The current Audi R8 looks quite a lot like the same old Lamborghini-derived mid-engined GT you've been seeing for the last half-decade. But it's not.

Sure, it still has most of the same mechanical parts and it even looks mostly the same, but the 2014 Audi R8 is a massive step forward in the finer points of the experience, as well as a few of the major ones.

As we learned in our first drive of the new car, crossing the Alps from Italy to Germany, the 2014 R8, especially the V10 Plus model, is far more fun to drive and seamless to interact with. Why? In large part, because of the dual-clutch transmission that replaces the previous semi-automatic R tronic unit.

Quick shifts, smart automatic behavior, even on track, and a well-balanced chassis housing even more power--the 2014 Audi R8 is a willing and capable companion.
