For example, Porsche will be out to demonstrate the prowess of its all-wheel drive technology by presenting its first-ever all-wheel drive 911 model, the winner of the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally. The car is a heavily modified version of the 953-series 911, built specifically for the classic rally, which was won by drivers René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne. It will be presented in its full desert gear from the rally, and will sit next to the latest Cayenne GTS, Porsche’s current most capable off-roader.
Another highlight will be one of only two four-door 928 concepts ever created. Developed all the way back in 1991, the concept demonstrates Porsche’s foresight of a four-door sports car long before the arrival of the Panamera. Its presentation at Pebble Beach will be the first time the concept will make a public appearance outside of the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
Finally, Porsche will also present a blue 550 Spyder owned by comedian Jerry Seinfeld, as well as a privately-owned red 356 Super Coupe; two cars, the automaker explains, exhibit the same bloodline as the brand new Boxster and the seventh generation 911.
The collection of historic models will be presented at the traditional location for Porsche’s Pebble Beach stand, Peter Hay Hill, which overlooks the famed Lodge at Pebble Beach. Additionally, Porsche race car owners who participate in the weekend’s racing events will be invited to stop by the Porsche Paddock Pub at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. A renowned 917K along with a one-of-a-kind Boxster and 911 will be on display in the garage-hospitality area.
