Jackson Racing supercharger for the Honda CR-Z

Jackson Racing supercharger for the Honda CR-Z

If, like us, you were hoping the Honda CR-Z would be the perfect balance of sport and hybrid, then you were probably, like us, disappointed to drive the real thing. Mixing what seems like the worst of both worlds, the CR-Z isn't exactly bad, but it's certainly uninspiring.

Jackson Racing seeks to make it about 40% less so, with the addition of a supercharger kit. Revealed this week, the kit adds 50 horsepower and 45 pound-feet of torque--or 40% more power and 38% more torque.

That yields a total output at the crank of about 172 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque, based on the factory 122 horsepower and 128 pound-feet with the six-speed manual transmission--which we certainly hope anyone considering this supercharger kit chose for their CR-Z.

For those of you concerned with your fuel economy, fear not: the kit doesn't harm fuel economy "when driven normally," according to Jackson Racing.

That doesn't mean it won't drink fuel like a frat boy in a beer pong contest when you're hammering it, but it should appease the sport/hybrid duality of its owners.

The kit ranges in price from $3,995 to $4,995 in various states of tune and completeness. For the full details, visit the official Jackson Racing page.
