We've already seen the photos and specs of the updated 2013 Audi R8, and while the changes to the car are minor, the refresh keeps the best of the original R8's style while adding tasteful accents, not to mention a much-needed replacement for the clunky R tronic automated manual gearbox. This latest video gives us a look at the extensive development program necessary to create any high-performance Audi model.

As the video points out, all Audi models are tested at high-speed on one of the most grueling race tracks in the worlds, Germany’s Nürburgring. Close to 5,000 miles worth of testing is done exclusively on the Nürburgring to test not only the performance of the car but also the durability. After this, engineers also take the cars out for some runs on the famous autobahns.

As mentioned, the changes introduced on the 2013 R8 are minimal, though a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox replacing the old R tronic unit is sure to be a welcome upgrade, as should the addition of standard LED headlights and new range-topping R8 V10 plus model. This particular beast benefits from an output of 550 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, as well as a special suspension setup to help make the most of the extra juice.
