Maserati is planning a replacement for its aging GranTurismo S in the form of a new GranTurismo Sport, which will debut next month at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The car is essentially the coupe version of the equally-stunning GranTurismo Convertible Sport launched last year and packs the same 460-horsepower 4.7-liter V-8.

Drive is sent strictly to the rear wheels via a ZF six-speed automatic transmission or an optional sequential manual unit with the same number of gears as the automatic. Both units also come with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, though on the automatic they’re an option.

In the lighter coupe body of the GranTurismo Sport either drivetrain package promises 0-60 mph acceleration in under 5.0 seconds and a top speed in excess of 177 mph. Final numbers will be confirmed closer to the car’s Geneva debut.

Visually setting the car apart from the current GranTurismo lineup are new, aerodynamically-enhanced bumpers, revised headlights with LED detailing, and darkened tail-lamp elements. The cabin also receives a new pair of seats and a sports steering wheel.

Stay tuned for more details as we approach the March 6 opening press days of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. In the meantime follow our dedicated show page for all the latest updates.
