In honor of the 20th anniversary of the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mazda celebrated by building the MX-5 Super20 for SEMA 2010. One year later, the car is back with a new paint scheme and the same track-focused attitude.

Since SEMA is a tuner show, the MX-5 Super20 is a good example of how a track-day focused MX-5 owner could build a car. Under the hood, the stock 2.0-liter MZR engine gets a Cosworth supercharger, a DPTune ECU reflash, and a Racing Beat stainless header and exhaust system.

The stock MX-5 suspension is upgraded with Mazdaspeed coil overs, a Mazdaspeed shock tower brace, Racing Beat hollow sway bars and light weight, 16-inch Enkei wheels with Toyo Proxes tires. Ensuring that the MX-5 Super20 has the right stance, 20mm H&R wheel spacers are used in the rear, with 15mm spacers used up front.

Inside, the car sheds its soft top to save weight, and a color matched roll cage adds both safety and chassis stiffening to enhance cornering ability. Seats get wrapped in black leather with dark gray suede inserts, and orange stitching is used to tie the interior to the exterior.

Outside, last year’s Storm Gray paint is gone, replaced by an attention-grabbing Hyper Orange Mica paint offset by matte black striping, fender flares and side skirts. The gloss black top also gets subtle matte black stripes, and gloss black mirrors complete the package.
