There can be few things more subjective than automotive beauty. As the saying goes, one man's meat is another man's poison.

That being the case, we think we might just have been poisoned by the contenders for Most Beautiful Car of the Year at the 27th International Automobile Festival.

Held in Paris, the competition seeks to find the most aesthetically pleasing four-door sedan, minivan, wagon, two-door sedan, convertible or SUV under 50,000 Euros ($66,700).

This rules out more expensive coupes and supercars but we're really not sure about the remaining candidates.

In fact, with the Renault Twizy in the line-up we're hoping the judges are looking past mere aesthetics and seeing some inner beauty. They're not all ugly--some are handsome--but there are certainly no "Miss Worlds" in the list, that's for sure.

Other candidates include the Chevrolet Camaro Cabriolet, Hyundai Veloster, Mazda CX-5 crossover and the Opel Ampera, GM's European version of the Volt. Previous winners include last year's victor, the Citroën DS4, as well as the Peugeot RCZ, Audi TT, Alfa Romeo Brera and the Nissan 350Z.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course and all the nominees have merit - but if beauty really is skin deep, we'd have picked a different list...
