Caterham Technology and Innovation Limited (CTI)

Since we first learned that track-car expert Caterham was being sold to Team Lotus Formula 1 and the race team’s associates, there has been suggestion that a handful of new Caterham road-cars would eventually be built.

In fact, at the announcement of Caterham’s sale back in April, one of the primary buyers, Tony Fernandes, said that he always wanted to use the halo of an F1 team to promote a road car business.

Today, development of the road-cars has taken a major step forward, with Caterham announcing a new standalone engineering business, Caterham Technology and Innovation Limited (CTI).

CTI will be responsible for the development of a completely new line of accessible and affordable sports cars inspired by the lightweight, minimalist philosophy of the legendary Seven and drawing on the advanced technologies and materials from Team Lotus Formula 1 and Caterham’s own Team AirAsia GP2 operations.

In addition to the next generation of Caterhams, CTI will undertake advanced projects for external companies operating within the automotive and aerospace sectors.

Some areas to be focused on include unique vehicle architectures, high performance engines, advanced materials, and manufacturing technologies related to Formula 1 and GP2 racing.

More details will be made available in the near future.
