We knew it was coming to the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, and following the show’s first press day yesterday we now have live images and official info for the European-spec Honda Civic.

This is the ninth generation of the car, and once again it maintains a blend of sedan and hatchback styling.

At the rear of the car is a combination light that also works as an aerodynamic spoiler, managing air flow over the top and sides of the car.

In the markets where it will be sold, the European-spec Civic will come with the choice of a 1.8-liter gasoline engine or a 2.2-liter turbodiesel. The gas unit is said to produce around 10 percent less CO2 emissions than the unit it replaces, while the diesel is said to be about 20 percent cleaner.

First sales are scheduled to start early next year, not long before a new Civic Type R performance variant is launched.

Tell us what you think of this European-spec Civic compared to the version we get. And for our complete coverage of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, click here.
