On the eve of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, Audi has pulled the wraps of its new Urban Concept and in the process reaffirmed the automaker’s intention to provide future customers with multiple solutions for reduced emissions, congestion and fuel consumption.

The Audi Urban Concept, of which there are both a coupe with a sliding roof, as well as a Spyder convertible, is purely a design study though many elements showcased may one day feature on Audi’s future models.

The Urban is described as a 1+1 vehicle running purely on electric power and constructed mostly of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum.

Weighing just 1,058 pounds, it also combines elements of a race car, a roadster, and a city car all in the one vehicle.
