It’s no secret luxury automotive brands are a selling record level of cars, thanks mostly to soaring demand in China, but also elsewhere in the world.

But what few may know is that most of the cars being ordered aren’t just regular production models, but exclusive customized units, modified typically through official in-house services such as Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke operation.

In fact, demand for customized cars from Rolls-Royce Bespoke is so high the automaker has been forced to expand the unit, with new team members including designers, engineers and project management staff expected to double the headcount to around 50 staffers by the end of the year.

In case you're wondering, the Bespoke operations are not limited to design and development of automotive parts. The service allows Rolls-Royce customers the luxury of commissioning cars to suit their personal lifestyles.

Examples are as versatile and unique as picnic sets that are color-matched to a car’s interior, carefully selected luxurious interior materials or the creation of special storage units within the car.

Ferrari is another brand who offers its customers a number of different ways to personalize their cars. The Italian automaker recently announced that every model it sold this year was personalized in some way, leading it to establish the new Tailor Made customization program, which launches at this September’s 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.
