According to Chrysler, performance of the electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking system (ABS) on the aforementioned models may diminish if the brakes overheat.
The affected models are those 2011 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans built from May 6, 2011, through July 26, 2011, and those 2012 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans built from February 9, 2011, through December 20, 2011.
In total, there are some 119,072 potentially affected vehicles in the U.S. alone.
The problem stems from the overheated brakes causing a fuse in the power distribution center bus bar for the ABS and ESC systems to fail. This can then lead to loss of vehicle control, increasing the potential for a crash risk. The issue was first discovered by Michigan State Police in one of its training vehicles.
Owners of the affected vehicles should take their cars to their nearest Chrysler or Dodge dealer, which will change and relocate the fuse in question free of charge.
