Burglaries at car dealerships aren’t exactly uncommon, and while most dealerships don’t like to discuss it, even the occasional car theft happens after hours. Thieves are usually content to grab a single set of wheels, or the occasional catalytic converter, before their luck runs out and they get nabbed in the act by local police.

Not so at a Dallas area Buick GMC dealership, which was relieved of 35 sets of 20-inch wheels over the weekend. Thieves hit virtually all the full-size GMC Yukons and GMC Sierra pickups they could get their hands on, leaving the new trucks up on blocks in the dealer’s lot. Unless the guilty parties were a NASCAR pit crew, the theft must have taken a significant amount of time to accomplish.

Robert Bobo, owner of the dealership, didn’t have a value estimate for the 140 20-inch wheels and tires stolen, but he was clear that the theft set a new record.

“I’ve been in the car business over 20 years and I’ve never heard a theft of this magnitude,” Bobo said.

Even local police have never had a theft of this many wheels and tires from a single location, and they will be offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. If you know who snatched the dubs and want to drop a dime, contact the Rockwall, TX police department.
