The 2012 BMW M5 has been to the Green Hell and back, and it appears to have broken the eight-minute mark while doing so.

Fastest Laps, a best-lap board, shows that an unnamed BMW test driver was behind the wheel, breaking the previous M5's time of 8:13 with a run of 7:55. The time puts the car on par with the Ferrari F430 and one second ahead of the 996 Porsche 911 Turbo.

For those who don't recall, the 2012 BMW M5 has a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that makes 560 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed M DCT dual-clutch transmission with launch control and paddle shifters gets that power to the ground.

Impressive numbers from an impressive car. Let the fanboy forum wars begin.
