While we're still not sure why anyone would pick the 2012 Beetle over the GTI, Golf R, or other platform-sharing models from Volkswagen, VW is plunging forward with its newly re-inspired car, using a special-edition Black Turbo model to kick off its new vehicle pre-order program.

The Black Turbo Beetle is a standard 2.0L TSI model, equipped with a DSG dual-clutch gearbox, standard Bluetooth, ambient lighting, upgraded brakes with red calipers, 18-inch wheels, alloy pedals, and a handful of other appearance tweaks. Only 600 of the Black Turbo models will be built. They start at $24,950.

As for the pre-order program, VW is offering Beetle fanatics (and fans of other models) a way to be sure they get in on what the company calls a "limited quantity of certain Volkswagen cars." As of now, the special Black Turbo edition Beetle is the only car in the program, but the announcement foreshadows other special, limited-run models.

If you're one of the Beetle fans VW is expecting, you can get the pre-order process started by visiting the official website.
