Volkswagen's Golf range is already set to get a lot more exciting here in the U.S. with the impending release of the Golf R, but VW may be adding to the mix with an American version of the Edition 35, renamed for our shores.

The rename would be a simple matter of counting the years since the GTI was introduced here: specifically, 30 years should the Edition 30, as it's likely to be called, arrive in 2012 or 2013.

If it does come, expect it to feature essentially the same kit as the European-market version, including unique interior and exterior badges, a 35-horsepower boost to 235 horses, and a slightly inflated price tag.

Ourselves, we're still eyeballing the Golf R, which at 265 horsepower from a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, sporting 4Motion all-wheel drive, and what amounts to R32 heritage, it's the enthusiast's choice in the lineup.
