Just as it did with the 911 and Boxster models, Porsche has released a new special edition of its Cayman S dubbed the Cayman S Black Edition. Marking the end of the Cayman line before the arrival of the next-generation 2012 Porsche Boxster and Cayman arrives, the latest special edition coupe will be limited to just 500 units worldwide and goes on sale this July.

The cars get the same 330 horsepower 3.4-liter flat-six engine from the Cayman R, as well as distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels finished in black and a more premium interior.

This extra 10 horsepower over the standard Cayman S is produced at 7,400 rpm, while the maximum torque remains unchanged at 272 pound-feet at 4,750 rpm.

Acceleration from 0-62 mph is improved by a tenth of a second to 5.1 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission, and to 5.0 seconds with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) dual clutch unit. With the launch control activated on the optional PDK Sport Chrono package, acceleration can get as low as 4.8 seconds.

The top speed of the Cayman S Black Edition is just over one mph faster than that of the Cayman S--173 mph with the manual transmission and 172 mph with the PDK.

Upmarket features of the car include bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, leather trimmed seats, satellite navigation, a Porsche Sport Design steering wheel, special ‘Black Edition’ labeling and a premium sounds system.

As mentioned, the new special edition Porsche goes on sale this July. It will be priced from $68,450, which actually represents a healthy saving considering the equipment it comes with.
