The U.S. is just getting its first taste of a diesel-powered Porsche, something that would have been unheard of just a few short years ago, but over in Europe Porsche is now launching its third diesel model in the form of the new Cayenne S Diesel. For anyone still questioning Porsche’s decision, British journo Chris Harris will attempt in his latest video to determine whether Porsche offering a diesel option, at least in the Panamera sedan, is a good thing.

The Panamera Diesel, which isn’t yet offered in the U.S., is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel sourced from Audi and rated at 250 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. Matched to Porsche’s Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission, this engine will accelerate the Panamera from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds and on to a top a speed of 150 mph, according to the official stats. Oh, and it's also capable of returning a fuel economy of about 37.3 mpg on the European combined cycle.

Subjectively, Harris has no qualms with the car, though it should be noted Porsche has lent him one as a long-term tester. But to be objective, he puts it through a series of performance tests.
