The wraps have just come off the 2012 Fiat 500 Cabrio, and it's exactly what we expected: an American version of the 500 Cabrio we've seen strolling around Europe for quite a while. Of course, it gets the upgrades all American 500s see, but the main draw is the slide-back canvas roof that mimics the original Nuova Cinquecento.

Because of the top's unique design, it can be operated at speeds of up to 60 mph, unlike a typical retracting-lid type top. It's power operated, so a single button press opens and closes the rig.

Three colors will be available for the soft top, to mate with 14 exterior colors and 12 seat colors for the pint-sized convertible.

Beyond the photos and those tasty tidbits about the new open-top 500, little else has been revealed. We'll have the full story for you live from the New York Auto Show next week.
