It's sure better (if not more creative) than Boxer Sports Car Architecture Concept. And we're definitely not missing Rear-Wheel Drive Sports Car Technology Concept.

What are we talking about? Subaru announced that it will finally drop those awkward, unwieldy names in favor of the much simpler "BRZ." That stands for "Boxer engine," Rear-wheel drive" and "Zenith," but thankfully Subaru is cutting full words in favor of initials.

The automaker plans to show the latest prototype of its future rear-driven coupe--a little diddy it calls the "Subaru BRZ Prologue - BOXER Sports Car Architecture II"-- at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show next month. In anticipation of the event, the automaker has also launched a teaser site, which you can visit by clicking here.

Subaru has yet to debut a fully-fledged concept or offer much detail on the BRZ, though it showed a skeletal concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. That model displayed how Subaru plans on fitting its 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder engine in a rear-wheel drive layout. Beyond that, we have no details or specs, but the coupe is expected to get six-speed manual or optional six-speed, paddle-shift automatic transmission options.

While Subaru has lagged behind Toyota in developing its version of the coupe, it should catch up at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show this December. Both Toyota and Subaru will debut production versions of their respective, jointly-developed coupes at the show.

The Subaru BRZ will enter production next spring.

Hopefully, the latest technology concept will give us some idea of where Subaru is going with the car's styling.
