Since the launch of the Aventador LP 700-4, Lamborghini’s sales have been brimming, with the company, on the back of a two-model lineup, managing to increase sales by 23 percent over the course of 2011 alone.

Most of that growth was thanks to new customers in China, a market which in very short time has grown to become the automaker’s second biggest, with the U.S. still narrowly claiming the top spot.

Despite its popularity in China, Lamborghini knows it will need more models if it hopes to continue the current rate of growth, as high-performance sedans and SUVs are the top-sellers in China.

It should come as no surprise then that Lamborghini is rushing its Urus SUV concept to production, though even then it’s unlikely to be ready for sale until 2017--at the earliest.

In the meantime, Lamborghini could launch something entirely different to quell demand from buyers seeking a ‘softer’ model from the automaker. One suggestion coming from Automobile is a four-seat version of the Aventador that could go head-to-head with the Ferrari FF. Such a model would also appease those fans of the original Estoque sedan concept, which was very well-received at its unveiling in 2008.

The new vehicle, which is reported to be previewed in concept form as early as next year, is said to be based on a stretched Aventador platform, equipped with a pair of jump seats in the rear, and be shaped less aggressively than the supercar with which it will share its running gear. The vehicle, which could be labeled an Aventador GT, is also tipped to feature a unique door concept, perhaps a single rear-opening ‘suicide’ door.

Of course, Lamborghini launching a four-seat Aventador is certainly one of the wilder rumors we’ve heard, so we would suggest taking this info with a grain of salt. After all, the automaker, which prides itself on exclusivity, is already very busy with several confirmed models due out soon, including the Aventador Roadster, production Sesto Elemento and long overdue replacement for the Gallardo.
