The Volkswagen Golf R has been on sale in Europe and other parts of the globe for the good part of a year now but we won’t be getting the car until around the end of this year--and we can’t wait. With a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine churning out 266 horsepower and matched to a sophisticated all-wheel drive system, the Golf R is the long-awaited successor to the awesome Golf R32 and should be on the wish list of every hot-hatch fan.

To keep the pot bubbling, Volkswagen has used this week’s 2011 Geneva Motor Show to debut four special versions of the Golf R. They include two versions painted in an exclusive ‘Oryx White’ and ‘Carbon Steel Grey’ color schemes, as well as a sports-inspired pair finished in ‘Space Grey’ and ‘Aplomb Blue’ respectively.

The Oryx White Golf R rides on 19-inch Talladega wheels and features an upgraded seat system derived from Volkswagen R’s ‘Exclusive’ program. The seat’s center panels have been color matched with the car’s exterior and trimmed with Nappa leather. Lateral seat supports in perforated leather give the seat and seatback an especially sporty elegance.

The Carbon Steel Grey Golf R gets a ‘St. Tropez’ color scheme for the interior as well as 19-inch wheels with aluminum trim strips.

The Space Grey example gets 19-inch Talladega wheels, orange brake calipers and carbon mirror caps.

Inside is where this Golf R really picks up speed, however.

The driver and front passenger are treated to motorsport bucket seats trimmed in Nappa leather and featuring cross-stitched center panels reminiscent of the first Golf GTIs.

Finally, we have the Golf R finished in Aplomb Blue. This model is fitted with 19-inch Glendale wheels finished in Brilliant Silver. It also has door mirror caps, various interior accents and door sill plates finished in carbon fiber, as well as Nappa leather trim with contrasting blue stitching.

Let’s hope some of these goodies are offered when the first U.S. delivered Golf R hatchbacks arrive. For full details on the Volkswagen Golf R, check out our previous post by clicking here, and for our complete coverage of the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, click here.
