When Audi originally unveiled its stunning R8 Spyder last September, the automaker decided to fit the model exclusively with its range-topping 5.2-liter FSI V-10 engine in keeping with the Spyder’s more upmarket positioning. The Coupe, on the other hand, was still available with either a 4.2-liter FSI V-8 or the more potent V-10.

Now, more than a year after the launch of the original R8 Spyder, Audi is selling a new 4.2-liter V-8 powered version of the convertible, which has been priced from $127,700 (excluding $1,275 dealer and delivery charges) and is being introduced for the 2011 model year.

The 2011 model year sees the 4.2-liter V-8 engine fitted in the Spyder, as well as the existing Coupe model, produce 430 horsepower--10 horsepower more than the outgoing engine. Thankfully, pricing for the standard R8 Coupe equipped with the V-8 has remained unchanged from last year, coming in at $114,200 (excluding $1,275 dealer and delivery charges).

In addition to the slight power bump, Audi has fitted new standard equipment including Bluetooth connectivity and a seatbelt microphone, the Titanium Sport Package for R8 Coupes, a leather pack and carbon-ceramic brake rotors.

Both V-8 versions of the 2011 Audi R8 supercar will be available towards the end of the year.
