Infiniti is heading down the road already strafed by the likes of BMW's M division, Mercedes-Benz' AMG sub-brand, and Audi's S and RS offspring, with a new performance badge dubbed IPL.

The Infiniti Performance Line bows today in Pebble Beach, California, where the luxury brand is gathering with classics owners and media for the annual Concours d'Elegance and the Monterey classics weekend.

IPL will add more performance luster first to the G37 Coupe. Shown here, the new edition of the two-door sports/luxury coupe gets a range of accessories from interior trim to performance upgrades from brakes, wheels and tires, to exhaust systems and suspension upgrades.

For the initial release, the rear-drive G37 Coupe turns into the IPL G Coupe with the addition of new fascias and fog lights, 7-spoke 19-inch wheels, chrome tips, and a spoiler. Exterior colors are limited to grey or black, and the interior comes with either grey or red upholstery, with red stitching and metallic accents.

With a freer-flowing exhaust and other engine modifications, the IPL G Coupe puts out 338 horsepower, up 18 hp from the standard G37 Coupe, and 276 pound-feet of torque. It's channeled through Infiniti's seven-speed, paddle-shifted automatic. Quicker steering and bigger brakes are added to the package as well.

All IPL coupes come with standard Bose audio, a hard-drive music storage system twinned with navigation and voice controls, and safety features like rearview cameras and parking sensors and a moonroof.

We haven't confirmed if the IPL effort will add turbocharging or supercharging to the G37 lineup soon, but like Nissan's NISMO outlet, it seems like a logical next step.
