Carbon fiber. You can ponder its resinous depths like a lover's eyes, and you can spend more money on it than your last engagement ring. It's a powerful lure, and BMW has three new bits of it for the 2011 M3 today.

All three types of M3--Coupe, Sedan, and Convertible--will be eligible for the upgrades, which consist of a deck lid spoiler, mirror caps, and a front splitter. Made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), the add-ons are rigid, light, and aerodynamically effective--at least in the case of the splitter and spoiler.

The CFRP material is the same as that used to make the roof panel on the M3 Coupe, and each piece is coated with an ultraviolet-resistant clear laminate to prevent yellowing, cracking, and degradation. Even better, each piece is covered by the BMW Performance accessory two-year, unlimited miles warranty. If the bits are added before you take delivery of your M3, they're covered by the full four-year/50,000-mile warranty that covers the car.

Pricing for the bits hasn't been released, nor has a specific on-sale date, but we'd assume you can phone up your dealer now, provided you've got a credit card with a bit of room left.
