The Audi TT RS was delivered to its first customer in the U.S. last week, bringing with it the return of the RS badge to our shores, but in the future there’s set to be even more high-performance RS models U.S. bound--and we’re not just talking about the RS5 due out next year.

The key is Audi’s plans to double its sales of performance models in the U.S. to around 16,000 vehicles by 2015. The RS badge represents the peak of Audi’s technical capabilities for each of the model lines it’s applied to and accordingly these are the models that would best serve as a halo for the brand.

“We’re now taking the first steps with the TT RS and the RS5,” Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi’s sales chief, revealed to Bloomberg. “I could indeed imagine that we’ll continue along that route in the future.”

Audi’s sales have been up across the board, but its performance models have been doing exceptionally well. The S4, for example, has accounted for 14 percent of all A4 models delivered so far, nearly triple what the previous generation did.

You’ll see the TT RS and RS5 feature much more prominently in future promotional efforts from Audi, including on Facebook where more than 11,500 fans originally petitioned to have the TT RS introduced to the U.S.

Some of the other potential RS models include the entry-level RS3, a new-generation RS4, and a new RS6 based on the latest 2012 Audi A6.

One thing is for certain, there won’t be any RS badges fitted to Audi’s SUV range, and neither the A8 flagship sedan.
