Cosworth-Subaru WRX STI teaser

Cosworth-Subaru WRX STI teaser

Cosworth is one of motorsports most loved and legendary names, responsible for many a highly-tuned Ford vehicle, and this year rejoining the F1 grid as an engine manufacturer. They're also no stranger to tuning and supplying Subaru parts, so the announced Cosworth-Subaru WRX STI for the 2010 Geneva Motor Show is expected to be a neck-straining, face-stretching rocketship.

It's a completely one-off project that Cosworth is looking to make into a "truly staggering" vehicle that "will raise the bar for all-wheel-drive, high-performance motoring." Color us impressed, but that's a mighty powerful statement to make with the likes of the Porsche 911 GT2 and Lamborghini Murcielago and its many variants on the table. Not to mention the Audi R8, RS4, and RS6.

Maybe they mean rally-bred all-wheel-drive high-performance motoring, or maybe they're just nuts enough to throw a ridiculous amount of engineering and expertise at the STI to make into a world-beater. Either way, we're eagerly awaiting the reveal. Previous Cosworth-tuned Subarus have turned out in excess of 415 horsepower, so we're expecting something closer to the 500-horsepower mark in order to reach the "truly staggering" claim. More is possible, given enough money and machine work, however.

Already feeling the pain of this car's one-off status? Don't fret--Cosworth's USA arm sells plenty of performance parts for the Subie EJ20 and EJ25 engines, including forged pistons and rods, billet steel crankshafts, a series of stroker kits, engine assemblies and more.
