2010 BMW 1-Series

When the BMW 1-Series was first unveiled back in 2004, many predicted the car to be a flop and something to be shunned by the brand’s faithful. Instead, the 1-Series has turned out to be a success story for BMW, with more than one million units built since launch.

In fact, the BMW 1-Series has already reached a seven-digit production volume in its first model generation, clearly confirming its status as a genuine best seller in the international car market. Not surprisingly, the car is one of the driving forces behind BMW becoming the world’s top automaker.

In celebration of the milestone, BMW delivered a special anniversary 1-Series to its owner at the 2010 Leipzig Motor Show in Germany yesterday. The car was a three-door 118d Hatchback built at BMW’s plant in Leipzig. This particular plant currently builds up to 700 cars a day and more, depending on demand in the market. Ever since it started production in 2005, no less than 662,000 cars have come off the plant’s line.

Soon there will be an all new generation of the 1-Series. Click here to see spy shots and read up on all the details.
