We’ve already started to see this with the launch of the new 2013 Cadillac XTS, a car that features some impressive technology including an 8-inch, fully capacitive touch-screen display, magnetorheological suspension and one of the best crash mitigation systems around.
Soon, we’re going to see the new 2013 ATS go on sale, and after that a brand new 2014 CTS and ELR range-extended electric car.
According to a recent filing at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Cadillac may be launching another, brand new model in the near future as well.
Car and Driver has scooped a trademark filing from GM for the “Cadillac LTS” name. No other details were included with the filing, including if this will even be used for a production model, however, it has been suggested that Cadillac will use the LTS name on one of two new rear-wheel drive models it’s planning.
We recently brought you details about a new rear-wheel drive platform for large cars being developed by GM for premium vehicles. Called Omega, the new platform was said to share much in common with the smaller Alpha rear-wheel drive platform underpinning the ATS and next CTS and spawn a large rear-wheel drive sedan to replace the XTS and possibly a new flagship for the brand. It’s possible one of these new cars will be called the LTS.
Of course, it’s not uncommon for automakers to register trademarks they have no intention of using. That being said, nearly all of the Cadillac model names trademarked by GM over the years have ended up on one of the luxury brand’s production models or concepts.
