There's certainly no shortage of coverage in the online and dead-tree media for the major auto shows, but the New York Auto Show's organizers have decided to find yet another audience: iPhone users.

While we're partial to the method of delivering auto show news with the added value of experience, knowledge and up-to-the-minute live coverage--and we're sure you are, too--we understand that the truly fanatical enthusiast can never get enough. And for those car nuts, the app sounds like a winner.

The 2010 New York Auto Show app will be launched closer to the show, but a release today lists its features: access to the latest news releases, an in-app photo library, maps of the show floor, the ability to buy tickets and memorabilia for the show, a car dealer locator, plus tips on parking and directions to the show.

Blackberry and Android users won't be left completely in the cold: the New York Auto Show's official site is "mobile friendly" according to the announcement. But if you want a dedicated app, it's Apple-only.

The 2010 Chicago Auto Show and 2010 Geneva Motor Show are coming before the 2010 New York Auto Show arrives in April, and we'll be there, covering the action and bringing you the latest inside information, live photos and details from the floor.
