It may not be the M version of the Z4 we’ve all been dreaming of but if you’re finding that the run-of-the-mill Z4 sDrive35i just isn’t cutting it for you in terms of performance at least now you have a option with the latest 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive35is.

The car made its world debut earlier this month at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show and like the recently revealed 2011 BMW 335is, the Z4 sDrive35is highlights BMW’s new “s” lineup of range topping models. Pricing will start at $61,925 including $875 for destination and handling when sales start this spring. This compares with $46,875 and $52,775 including $875 for destination and handling respectively for the lesser Z4 sDrive30i and Z4 sDrive35i models.

So what do you get for the significant price premium? For starters, you get one of the fastest and best handling roadsters BMW has ever built. This is thanks mostly in part to an uprated version of the now-familiar N54 twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine.

In its application in the Z4 sDrive35is the engine features increased air intake flow and increased boost pressure to release more power. Nominal peak torque is increased to 332 pound-feet, available from 1,400 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Maximum output of 335 horsepower is delivered at 5,800 rpm.

The enhanced engine management system of the Z4 sDrive35is also includes an electronically-controlled overboost function to briefly increase torque under full load by another 37 pound-feet. This temporary torque peak of 369 pound-feet gives the car a significant increase in acceleration.

According to BMW it will sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds and easily reach an electronically controlled top speed of 155 mph.
