Porsche is set to unveil a new hybrid model, which is almost certain to be the long-rumored 2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid. However, further down the track we could be seeing even more Panamera models.

In the past we’ve seen reports on new coupe and convertible versions but these are unlikely to be developed anytime soon. The reasoning is production of the current sedan bodystyle is already at capacity and still short of meeting full demand.

However, there’s a strong chance that a long-wheelbase version will be developed to satisfy growing demand in the U.S. and China.

The wheelbase of the Panamera is 115 inches long but company insiders have revealed that Porsche is looking at a stretched version with a 120 inch wheelbase. This would put the Porsche sedan in a similar league to some of the biggest four-doors on the market, such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which has a wheelbase of 124 inches.

The stretched design would call for a longer rear door, allowing for easier access into the rear cabin and increased legroom for backseat passengers.

The new long-wheelbase Panamera is expected to go on sale next year. However, before its arrival we should see the new hybrid as well as a diesel model appear in showrooms.

As for the rumored coupe and convertible bodystyles, Porsche is likely to wait until the next-generation of the car before developing them, which means a release date well into the second half of the decade.
